De Groene Amsterdammer, a left-liberal Dutch weekly, published a long, nuanced article stating that the end of cash would have negative consequences on the relationship between citizens and government and between citizens and those entities who will be issuing and managing the new money systems.

The article draws attention to the recent Indian experiment which has deepened inequality between rich and poor. It mentions EU plans to impose restrictions on cash payments, and expresses worry.
The Groene Amsterdammer quotes a Dutch fintech entrepreneur, Rob Van Hilten (CEO of Quoin  active in local currencies), who warns against the cashless society: “Money is more than the “oil” in our economy. It also serves as the “glue” of our society.”
