Latvia’s BlueOrange Bank deployed the first five Diebold Nixdorf ATMs with integrated BS/2’s contactless technology in Riga. Thanks to near-field communication (NFC) these contactless ATMs are designed to offer users a swifter and frictionless cash-withdrawal experience. Indeed, users simply need to approach their bank card to the ATM (without pulling it out of the wallet) and proceed to select the needed service.

NFC technology only works from a distance of 10cm – unlike Bluetooth which has a larger range – offering greater security for users. Furthermore, NFC abides to the same security standards as EMV chip cards: at each usage, a one-time key is generated. So, although the key can potentially be intercepted, it’s practically useless thereafter.

The same contactless technology was already successfully deployed in Estonia a couple of years ago.
