Abolishing the 500-euro note would cost 500 million, but would criminality really disappear?

The European Central Bank’s (ECB) initiative to examine the use of the €500-note by criminals has uncovered other issues that would arise with its abolishment. In fact, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has estimated that ceasing the circulation of Europe’s largest denomination would cost the ECB 500 million euros – and this, without the certainty that it will reduce criminality.
