Highlights from this weeks’ new Roundup:
Branch Banking
A survey commissioned by credit information provider CRIF finds that less than a quarter (23%) of adults in the UK say having a bank branch near to where they live is important when deciding who to bank with. In contrast, more than a third of Americans (38%) and Europeans (35%) still say having a branch near them is important when choosing who to bank with.
Meanwhile in the US, Bank of America has pledged to open 165 financial centres by the end of 2026. Earlier this year, JPMorgan Chase announced 500 new branches over the next three years, and PNC Bank also recently said it will open more than 100 new branches and renovate more than 1,200 by 2028.
CashMoney in physical form such as banknotes and coins. More Regulations
The Bank of Israel has said there is no “professional justification” for a proposal to cancel NIS 200 banknotes as part of an effort to combat tax evasion.
In the Netherlands, cash payments above €3,000 are to be banned after the parliament voted for a stricter limit than the European Union’s planned ceiling of €10,000.
Cash Handouts
China’s government announced it will offer a one-time cash allowance to those in extreme poverty, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China, as part of a package of stimulus measures aimed at shoring up the economy. Thailand announced a similar policy a few weeks ago.
