Louisenthal CEO, Dr. Wolfram Seidemann asserts that “banknotes are the safest means of payment in the world”, and must remain that way. That’s why the industry is continuously seeking ways to innovate and develop security features that both respond to the requirements of the public and guarantee secure and efficient machine-readability.

This week, at the Banknote Conference in Washington D.C., Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) presented a new family of security features that focuses on intuitive perception. By combining micromirror and ColourShift technology, the German security printer was able to develop new easy-to-use optically variable effects. In fact, G&D Management Board, Ralf Wintergerst, argues that “we need cash just as much as we need digital or mobile payment methods […] Innovation and technological advances are the key to guaranteeing this security.”

Banknote Conference occurs every two years and is one of the most prominent events for industry leaders and governments alike. This year, the conference is being held in Washington, D.C 23-26 May, 2016.
