The NYPD (New York City Police Department) has come up with an unusual solution to fight robberies at cash machines. Instead of increasing police presence on the streets of New York, they will introduce ATMs on their premises, starting from neighbourhoods of ill repute. The objective is to provide residents with a safe environment where to withdraw their money, anytime.

This is the result of a collaborative project between the Municipal Credit Union bank and the NYPD. While the main goal is to reduce the risks of robberies, the installation of ATMs inside station houses will encourage positive interactions between officers and residents.

Overall, the project was well received by the population. Some people stated that this solution enables them to get cash at all hours of the night without feeling any fear.

At present, five police stations are equipped with ATMs: three in Brooklyn, one in Washington Heights and one in Queens. In the future, the police plans to install cash machines in all of the 98 stations of the city.
